#SaveTheKids Collin Kartchner's Message on the Dangers of Social Media & Smart Phones

At what age is it appropriate to give your kid a smartphone? How can we #savethekids from the dangers of social media?  This is the work Collin Kartchner dedicated what ended up being the final years of his life to.

I had planned to have Collin on the Podcast to share his mission, but unfortunately, that time never came. Collin Kartchner passed away suddenly on October 20th, 2020. So, even though he cannot be here today, it is my honor to share his mission with all of you. He fought hard for our kids and it's in our hands now to carry the torch.

Today in our country and across the globe we are seeing an epidemic rise in the levels of anxiety, depression, and suicide among our teenagers. According to the CDC, suicide is the second leading cause of death for 10-24 year old Americans. The rate of death by suicide in people 10-24 years old increased 57.4% over the 10 year period from 2007 to 2018. Much of this epidemic has been attributed to the rise of cell...

There's Nothing More Important Than This Right Now: Connection

Today's topic is huge. It is something a lot of us have been lacking this year, and something the world needs more of. We’re going to be talking about Connection: The importance of connection with our kids, social connection during Covid,  and finally (and most importantly), the connection we have with ourselves.

With a quick google search of “the importance of human connection” you’ll get a ton of articles and studies supporting the value of feeling connected. Human connection is basically relationships. Brene Brown, who I love, defines connection as “the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”

 Your next best step:

Intentionally think about connection and what this episode brought up for you. If you’re looking for more connection with your kids my Conscious...

Hey everyone!

It starts with viewing their behavior differently and looking at how we are treating ourselves as a parent.

You'll also learn that there are 3 main reasons your child isn't listening or in the place you want them to be.

[Podcast] Behind the Scenes: Some Thoughts on Parenting

Today's episode gives a glimpse of what I have been up to and what's to come in the near future: Parent Coaching! I talk a bit about the parenting philosophies I've been trained in and what they are all about. I specifically focus on the concepts of Conscious Parenting and Positive Discipline and how these work to help you build a better relationship with your children.

**EDIT** I state I have a kid who is about to turn 6, but he is about to turn 7! I am just so used to him being 6 that I misspoke :)

CONSCIOUS PARENTING
Conscious Parenting speaks to me so much because unlike traditional parenting, which is really child-centric, focused on
their behaviors and, correcting behaviors, and often times punishments and rewards (which, believe me, I have used myself),  conscious parenting turns that paradigm upside down and puts the onus on us, the parents, to put the child’s well-being first.

It puts the responsibility on US to take each moment in...
